Common Cures for Acne
Great Ways To Fight Pimples

Although there is no surefire way to cure acne, there are many effective treatments that can keep your acne under control. Below are a few options for you to explore for curing your acne.
1. Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl-peroxide-cream
Benzoyl peroxide has been scientifically proven to help treat acne. This common acne cure medicates the skin by killing skin bacteria and unclogging your pores. It is by far the best acne treatment to get without a doctor’s prescription. Many different forms of benzoyl peroxide are available in varying levels of concentration (2.5 percent, 5 percent, or, more rarely, 10 percent.
When trying out benzoyl peroxide, start off gently with a lower concentration lotion. If you start off with too high of a concentration, or if you apply the lotion too many times a day, your skin might turn red and peel.
Apply a thin film to areas where acne tends to form on your face. This is a great way to prevent acne from forming in the first place. Avoid applying the lotion around your eyes, mouth, nostrils, and other delicate areas of your face.
If your acne does not improve after a few weeks, try increasing the concentration to 5 or 10 percent. Follow the previous steps and apply the lotion once a day; apply more frequently if you do not see results after a few weeks.
2. Tried everything? Consult your doctor
There are a variety of other prescription medications your doctor may prescribe if your skin does not respond to over-the-counter medications such as benzoyl peroxide. The following are three major medications used to treat acne:
Retin-A Lotion – This effective medication unplugs oil ducts. However, your sensitivity to the sun will be heightened when using this medication, so avoid tanning parlors or overexposure to the sun.
Antibiotic gel/cream – This is used to treat a special type of acne called pustular acne.
Antibiotic pills – Antibiotics help cure acne by medicating the body and decreasing inflammation of the skin. This works well in conjunction with other treatments as well.
3. Accutane: The Last Resort

accutane pills
Isotretinoin, more commonly known as Accutane, is a very powerful acne medication taken in pill form. This medication is typically prescribed for very severe cystic acne that has not responded to other treatments listed above. Accutane causes serious birth defects and can never be taken during or before pregnancy. Unborn babies suffer severe deformities under exposure to Accutane in the womb. Patients taking Accutane are advised to use birth control if sexually active. Some doctors require you to take a pregnancy test before prescribing Accutane.
4. Birth Control Pills?

birth control pills
The birth control pill can be an effective treatment for acne for women over fifteen years of age. Birth controls help fight acne by lowering the level of certain hormones that cause your skin to produce excess oil and sebum. However, keep in mind that taking birth control in conjunction with antibiotics may reduce the effectiveness of both.
